Most cab operators have contracted drivers, but there are some independent operators who own their cabs. The city also has an 'Ambassador Cab' system whereby operators are trained to provide better and more comfortable service.

Airport limo and cabs require a separate license with the Greater Toronto Aiport Authority in order to drop and pickup fares from Pearson International Airport.
